“SORBY, I. & H. SHEFFIELD
Started by John Sorby around 1800, the owner of the well-known hanging sheep trade mark found on edge-tools, sheep shears etc. By 1932 the firm had become part of Turner, Naylor & Co. and was thus eventually incorporated into Wm. Marples. The firm were not planemakers but like many Sheffield firms factored all sorts of tools not made by themselves when this was necessary in the course of trade.” [GOODMAN]
