Whetting anvil
Small anvil for the whetting (sharpening) of scythe or flemish scythe. The whetting anvil is an iron pin tapering downwards, with a flat square steel head (approx. 3-5 cm). Sometimes the head is also wedge-shaped or both shapes are combined. Approximately in the center of the pin is an opening through which an iron or wooden cross pin protrudes to prevent the whetting anvil from being driven too deep into the ground during the bristle. In our regions, the mower sits on the ground, with the whetting anvil between the legs. The scythe is placed on the anvil and hit with a hammer. With a whetting hammer on the flat-headed hair shovel, with a bench hammer on the wedge-headed hair shovel. [MOT

The shoemaker's wheel pricker (approx. 20 cm long) has a metal wheel (approx. 2 cm in diameter) with sharp pointed teeth, which is attached in a U-shaped bracket to the end of a metal shaft; the shaft is attached to a wooden handle with a tang. It is used to mark the holes on the leather where the awl will go through later. The distance between the teeth varies according to the desired distance between the stitches. Wire saw (lumberman)
The wire saw is a thin (1 mm), relatively short (approx. 50 cm) steel wire with sharp grooves and a ring at both ends. With this saw, which is easy to carry in a pocket, thin branches can be cut. If you want to cut high branches, attach a rope to each ring. The saw can then be thrown around a branch. The ropes are pulled with one or two people. See also manual chainsaw. [MOT]
